Born out of a need to house Hoover Dam construction workers in the 1930’s, Boulder City prides itself on being, and remaining, a small town with a small town feel.  This community has managed to become the safest city in Nevada by reputation, and is backed up by the numbers.  Its building architecture is reflective of the Art Deco Period gaining popularity in the 1920’s moving into “Minimal Traditional” in the 1930’s-1950’s as a response to the difficult economic times of the Great Depression beginning in 1929.  Most neighborhoods in Boulder City reflect the Minimal Traditional style.

Anderson Family Homes was fortunate to snag one of the few remaining open lots in this historic town.  We have chosen to honor the “Minimal Traditional” style on the exterior.  Nonetheless, the home will be the nicest looking house in the neighborhood.  The interior is more contemporary with an open-concept floor plan and amenities desired by homeowners today.

The kitchen, dining room and great room are the center of the home.  The kitchen is appointed with shaker cabinets, a 5-burner conduction cooktop, 32″ wide deep sink, 36″ wide refrigerator, a 30″ wide microwave/oven combo where the microwave converts to a 2nd oven, and a 7ft long island with pendant lights that seats 4 people.  There is even a walk-in pantry a few steps away from the island.

The dining room easily fits a 6-chair dining set.  The great room has an electric fireplace with room for an 80″ TV above it, built in speakers in the ceiling, and plenty of space for seating and built-ins.  The laundry room houses the washer/dryer, electric water heater, and provides space and a hook-up for a water softener.

The primary suite is very spacious, even with a King size bed set.  Its bathroom boasts double sinks, a vanity station, a free standing tub, 4 ft x 4ft curbless shower, water closet, and linen closet.  The suite has a walk-in closet with space for a custom closet design.

Even the home’s exterior comes with bells and whistles, such as a covered front porch, spacious rear patio, and oversized 2 car driveway fitted with an electric vehicle charger outlet.

Considering the heart of Las Vegas is only 35 miles away, this home is the perfect place for a family with ties to the big city, while still living the good life in a safe, quiet, small town.

It comes that time in many people’s lives where the parents need some assistance in their lives. While some families decide to move their parents into a retirement community, other families prefer a more intimate approach to adult care- the home addition. We have worked with the client to provide a space that allows for full autonomy featuring a large, wide-open living and sleeping space, a kitchenette, and a wheelchair-friendly bathroom. The space also boasts a vaulted ceiling, recessed lighting, and french doors to an outdoor patio space. The addition is fully wheelchair-accessible from the home yet can be isolated for privacy.

The client wanted a space that suited her parents perfectly for the long-term but would also appeal to the real estate market down the road. We at Anderson Family Homes have developed a functional Parents’ Suite that dovetails neatly with the existing home and will pay for itself in increased market value. We can’t wait to build this new home within a home- it will be epic!

Typical of suburban Las Vegas tract homes built in the 80’s through the early 2000’s, 4″ square tiles combined with a bland color palette and “no-frills” interior design dominated this kitchen. This kitchen was also victim to the popular trend (that continues to this day) of poor lighting design. On the bright side, this kitchen was designed with lots of space and an efficient appliance layout. Transforming the island into a peninsula unlocked the potential of this kitchen. This, along with upgrading the lighting and updating the interior design by about 30 years, created a brand-new space the owners could cook, dine, play, entertain, relax and work in. It has become the true heart of the home.

This kitchen perfectly reflected the 1970’s by displaying earthy colors. The only design feature missing was a patch of olive-green shag carpet in the middle of the floor. Despite the outdated colors and patterns, and failed lighting, this kitchen had the makings of an excellent cooking and socializing space. The “chef’s triangle” was already built in, so the kitchen could be built around the existing locations of the refrigerator, sink, and stovetop.

The entire room was stripped to the studs and the 7′ false ceiling was removed. Additional insulation was installed, all new drywall was hung, recessed lights were added to the new 8′ ceiling, and all new cabinets were placed (including a new wall of cabinets added to the existing empty wall).

The oven was upgraded to a double oven, and the stovetop was expanded from 30″/4 burners to 36″/5 burners. These changes required larger home-run wires to be run all the way through the house back to the circuit breaker panel. The breakers were upgraded as well to receive the higher capacity oven and stovetop.

The final touches included replacing the marble countertop, backsplash, and floating shelves to match today’s color and pattern tastes. As a result, the space has become an inspiration.

Constructed in one of the original neighborhoods of Las Vegas Golden Age of the 1960’s, this home had some of its lustre worn off and needed a face-lift to make it more attractive to potential tenants. Anderson Family Homes was tasked with extensive cosmetic repairs, remodeling, and painting. This included: Master bathroom remodel, tile flooring repair, ceiling drywall repair, tile flooring repair, entire interior paint, exterior paint, entire bedroom remodel, attic insulation, front door replacement, RV Gate repair/upgrade.
The home was transformed into a Desert-chic abode worthy of being located in upscale Palm Springs neighborhoods. While not a complete upgrade to “Mid-Century Modern” form due to cost and time concerns, Anderson Family Homes looks forward to the opportunity to install the final touches such as a period-appropriate garage door, front door trim and window trim.
This was an upgrade both the owner and tenant were proud of.
